We love essential oils at Naturopathic Earth. So much so that we have a podcast feed, Katie’s Essential Oils Apothecary, that focuses on the myriad usages of these potent agents. When many thing of essential oils (EOs), we think primarily of using it on the skin, or ingesting it, or diffusing it. But what about mopping? Let’s talk about the best Mopping Floors Essential Oil Recipe.
I like using EOs for cleaning. And why not? One of the reasons we place them on our skin (via a carrier agent) is because they are famous for their antimicrobial potency. So why not use them to clean. I put EOs in my cleaning spray to clean my countertops all the time.
We have numerous EO recipes. Click on the pictures below to check out some of them.
Mopping Floors Essential Oil Recipe
What makes this particular Mopping Floors Essential Oil Recipe so special? Honestly nothing special. Look, the ingredients needed to mop the floor are not some secret. You need water and some sort of soap.
Some people like to use floor cleaners like Murphy’s or Pinesol but honestly it isn’t needed. The true ingredient which kills 90% of all pathogens is good ole’ plain vinegar. Yes, the vinegar that costs $1. It is an amazing cleaner.
Which Oils are best?
Which oil(s) are the ideal for the mopping floors essential oil recipe? Honestly, it is up to preference. Most EOs have antimicrobial agents…some like eucalyptus and tea tree are renown for them. For this recipe I opted for two whose scents I like the most and who complement each other. Lemon and Lavender.
Lavender is best known for being a great agent for relaxation and reducing anxiety. Lemon is mostly known for cleaning, and its awakening and exhilarating effects. That is why you see fake lemon put in so many crappy, toxic conventional cleaners.
Speaking of conventional cleaners, there is absolutely no reason to have them in your house. All contain known active ingredients that are pernicious to your endocrine (hormone), respiratory systems as well as being possibly cancer-causing. Plus, there is no reason to have them when vinegar, especially mixed with EOs, will kill mostly everything without being toxic.
So mix and match different EOs that you have in your house for the perfect
mopping floors essential oil recipe. As long as you have water, vinegar, and a few drops of the EOs, you can’t go wrong.
Incidentally, some of you use a Shark cleaner. If so, you might be recommened to use distilled water. Placing drops in there is fine, though I believe the Shark products don’t handle vinegar too well. I used to use a Shark for years and never had any problems with mixing in vinegar and oils…until it broke. Hmm..maybe that is a nice.
Buy these EOs right now! They are not doTerra or Young Living quality but they are rather good for the price.
Mix and mop! Pretty easy.
